Matthew Ipcar was born in New York City and grew up in downtown Brooklyn. He graduated from Stuyvestant High School in 1989 and soon moved upstate to begin a four year program at the School of Architecture at SUNY Buffalo. After the second year, he decided to focus more on communications and graphic design and graduated with honors from the Design Studies program affiliated with the Architecture School.

SAN FRANCISCO AND BEYOND/ After graduation he moved back to New York and interned at Avekta Productions, a small Madison Avenue post-production company, as well as at The List magazine. After about a year, his girlfriend (now wife) landed a fellowship to UC Berkely to attend the Graduate School for Journalism. They lived in San Francisco for the next 5 years, where he worked for advertising agencies and as senior designer for an online travel service until he began my freelance business in 1999.

In December of 2000, they decided to take their life savings and travel to asia for as long as they could. they ended up staying away for a year, travelling and doing volunteer work. They spent six months in India, but were also able to visit Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, Nepal and Tibet, and China. When the money started to run out, they knew it was time to come home, and decided to return to New York.

They returned to New York just before New Years 2002, and after several months of culture and economic shock we slowly, but surely, became reacquainted with the big city way of life.
